COMBER PRIMARY SENDS HELP TO HAITI


When the children of Comber Primary School made their decision to send a ShelterBox to help with the relief efforts in Haiti they were keen to see for themselves what the contents of their box would be.

Some weeks ago we reported the Rotary Club of Comber’s immediate response through their organisation’s ShelterBox scheme to the string of catastrophic disasters which had struck areas around the Pacific within days of each other.

COMBER PRIMARY JOINS IN CAMPAIGN TO “END POLIO NOW”


Comber Primary School has raised £300 for Rotary International’s “End Polio Now” campaign, and three of its young pupils were there last week to hand over the school’s cheque to John Beers, President of the Rotary Club of Comber.

BATTLE OF THE ROTARY YOUNG CHEFS


Four young cooks from Downpatrick schools battled it out last week to represent the area in the next stage of Rotary’s Young Chef of the Year competition. After a closely contested 2½-hour cook-off, 14-year-old Catherine Burns from Crossgar emerged as winner.

COMBER ROTARY CHOOSES KERRIE AS ITS “YOUTH LEADERSHIP” CHAMPION


The Rotary Club of Comber has selected Kerrie Stevenson from Downpatrick to be its representative in Rotary’s annual Youth Leadership challenge. Kerrie, a pupil of Down High School, was chosen from nine finalists from the wider Comber district – including competitors from Assumption Grammar School, Ballynahinch; Down High School; the Killinchy Activity Group and Killinchy Boys Brigade – who had been whittled down from an original 24 local applicants.

Call to Young Musicians and their Teachers: The Search is on for Northern Ireland’s Young Musician of the Year 2010


The search has begun to find Northern Ireland’s next Young Musician of the Year. Open to entrants from all corners of Northern Ireland, the competition is for solo instrumentalists aged 12-16 years inclusive, and singers aged 12-18 years inclusive.

COOK ISLANDS INSIGNIA FOR COMBER ROTARY “CHIEF”


Past President Ken Brundle has returned to the Rotary Club of Comber bearing gifts from the Cook Islands.
